Supported Formats

What image formats do you support?

PixoConverter supports 16+ image formats including:

  • Common formats: JPEG/JPG, PNG, GIF, BMP
  • Modern web formats: WebP, AVIF
  • Mobile formats: HEIC, HEIF (iOS/iPhone photos)
  • Professional formats: TIFF, JPEG 2000, EPS, PDF
  • Specialized formats: ICO, TGA, DDS, PCX, PPM, SGI

Can you convert HEIC files from iPhone?

Yes! HEIC is the default photo format for iPhones (iOS 11+). We fully support converting HEIC to JPEG, PNG, or any other format. This is one of our most popular conversions since HEIC files often can't be opened on Windows computers or uploaded to many websites.

Do you support WebP and AVIF?

Yes! We support both modern web formats. WebP is excellent for website optimization (25-35% smaller than JPEG), and AVIF offers even better compression (up to 50% smaller than JPEG). You can convert to or from these formats easily.

Conversion Process

How do I convert an image?

Converting images is simple:

  1. Click the upload area or drag and drop your image
  2. Select your desired output format (JPEG, PNG, WebP, etc.)
  3. Click "Convert Image"
  4. Download your converted file

Most conversions complete in 2-5 seconds!

How long does conversion take?

Most image conversions complete in 2-5 seconds, depending on:

  • File size (larger files take slightly longer)
  • Input and output formats (some formats process faster than others)
  • Server load (we maintain high-performance servers)

Even large 10MB images typically convert in under 10 seconds.

What's the maximum file size?

We accept images up to 10 MB. This accommodates:

  • High-resolution smartphone photos
  • Most digital camera photos (after in-camera JPEG compression)
  • Screenshots and web images
  • Typical professional photography

If you have larger files, consider resizing them first or converting from RAW to JPEG in photo editing software before uploading.

Can I convert multiple images at once?

Currently, PixoConverter processes one image at a time to ensure the fastest possible conversion speed and best quality for each file. Since each conversion takes only 2-5 seconds, converting multiple images sequentially is still very quick.

We're considering adding batch conversion in the future based on user demand.

Quality & Technical Questions

Does converting reduce image quality?

It depends on the formats involved:

  • Lossless to lossless (PNG to PNG, TIFF to PNG): No quality loss
  • Lossy to lossless (JPEG to PNG): No additional quality loss, but can't recover data already lost
  • Lossless to lossy (PNG to JPEG): Some quality loss, but minimal at high quality settings (85-95%)
  • Lossy to lossy (JPEG to WebP): Minimal additional loss with proper settings

We use optimized quality settings to preserve maximum quality while achieving good compression.

What happens to transparency when converting to JPEG?

JPEG doesn't support transparency. When you convert an image with transparency (like PNG) to JPEG, transparent areas are replaced with a solid color, typically white. If you need to preserve transparency, convert to PNG, WebP, or AVIF instead.

What's the difference between JPG and JPEG?

There is no difference! They are exactly the same format. The ".jpg" extension exists because older Windows systems required three-letter file extensions, so "JPEG" was shortened to "JPG". Modern systems recognize both as identical, and you can use either extension interchangeably.

Which format should I use for my website?

For modern websites in 2025, we recommend:

  • WebP as your primary format (25-35% smaller than JPEG, 96% browser support)
  • JPEG as a fallback for older browsers
  • PNG only when you need transparency
  • AVIF if you're willing to implement fallbacks (smallest files, 85% browser support)

WebP offers the best balance of file size, quality, and compatibility.

Privacy & Security

Is my data safe? Do you store my images?

Your privacy is our top priority:

  • Automatic deletion: All uploaded images are automatically deleted after 1 hour
  • No permanent storage: We never keep backups or archives of your files
  • HTTPS encryption: All uploads use secure SSL/TLS encryption
  • No human access: Conversion is 100% automated - no one views your images
  • No analysis: We don't examine or analyze image content

See our Privacy Policy for complete details.

Can I use PixoConverter for sensitive documents?

While we use HTTPS encryption and automatically delete all files after 1 hour, for extremely sensitive documents (legal, medical, confidential business), we recommend using desktop software that processes files entirely on your local computer without internet transmission.

For typical photos and images, our security measures are more than adequate.

Do you track me or collect personal data?

We collect minimal data:

  • We collect: Basic analytics (page views, browser type, anonymized usage stats)
  • We DON'T collect: Personal information, names, emails, or any identifying data
  • No registration: Since we don't require accounts, we have no personal data to collect
  • No tracking across sites: We don't track your browsing on other websites

Troubleshooting

Why did my conversion fail?

Conversions can fail for several reasons:

  • File too large: Maximum size is 10 MB
  • Corrupted file: The image file may be damaged
  • Unsupported format: The input file may not be a valid image
  • Network issue: Upload was interrupted

Try re-uploading or converting to a different format. If problems persist, contact us with details.

Why is my HEIC conversion not working?

If HEIC conversion fails:

  • The file may be corrupted or using an unsupported HEIC variant
  • Try opening the photo on your iPhone and re-saving it
  • Change iPhone settings to save as JPEG: Settings → Camera → Formats → "Most Compatible"
  • If using an older iPhone photo, ensure it's actually HEIC (iOS 11+ only)

Which browsers do you support?

PixoConverter works on all modern browsers including:

  • Google Chrome (recommended)
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Safari (macOS/iOS)
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Opera

We recommend using the latest version of your preferred browser for the best experience. Very old browsers may have compatibility issues.

Why is the converted file larger than the original?

This can happen when:

  • Converting lossy to lossless: JPEG (compressed) to PNG (uncompressed) will be larger
  • Adding transparency: PNG with alpha channel has more data
  • Low compression: Some formats like TIFF use minimal compression

To reduce file size, try converting to WebP, AVIF, or JPEG at 85-90% quality.

Common Use Cases

How do I convert iPhone photos to work on Windows?

iPhone photos (HEIC format) often don't open on Windows. To fix this:

  1. Upload your HEIC photo to PixoConverter
  2. Select JPEG as the output format
  3. Click "Convert Image"
  4. Download the JPEG file

The JPEG file will open on any Windows computer, Android device, or web browser.

How do I optimize images for my website?

To make your website load faster:

  1. Upload your images (JPEG or PNG)
  2. Convert to WebP format
  3. Download and use on your website

WebP files are 25-35% smaller than JPEG, significantly improving page load times and SEO rankings.

How do I create a logo with a transparent background?

If you have a logo on a white background:

  1. Use photo editing software to remove the background
  2. Save as PNG (to preserve transparency)
  3. Upload to PixoConverter if you need a different format
  4. Convert to PNG or WebP (both support transparency)

Note: Converting to JPEG will replace transparency with a solid color.
